SEL - Social Emotional Learning

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

Orion Alternative School continues to Partner with the National Urban Alliance with quality professional development which incorporates current research from cognitive neuroscience on learning, teaching, and leading. NUA believes building of the capacity of public educators to advocate community-wide responsibility for realizing the learning potential of its children.

In addition Orion will collaborate with  to implement the five broad, interrelated areas of competence are: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning is helps make evidence-based social and emotional learning an integral part of education.
