Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

Orion Alternative School continues to Partner with the National Urban Alliance with quality professional development which incorporates current research from cognitive neuroscience on learning, teaching, and leading. In addition to working with students, we also support staff and parents by creating and facilitating dynamic development trainings that give the necessary tools to implement academic and personal growth.This coming year our parent leadership teams will continue to work directly with site leadership and the National Urban Alliance with the goal of building trust, empathy and a cohesive school community that appreciates the unique qualities of Orion’s to programs, Mandarin Immersion and Parent Participation.
